Welcome to the GREEN Teachers Institute

The GREEN (Growing Environmental Education Now) Teachers Institute (GTI) is an award-winning professional development program for K-8 teachers. Conducted through Miami University's (Oxford, Ohio) Hefner Zoology Museum, the GTI consists of one- and two-week summer workshops at the introductory and advanced levels, each with significant follow-up during the academic year. All workshops share the goal of helping participants enhance their knowledge of biology, ecology, and environmental science and gain confidence in using hands-on, inquiry-based teaching methods.

To learn more about the GTI's workshops, history, and inquiry activities created by previous participants, please click on the links at the left. The other links provide information about the GTI's staff and sponsors, as well as its testimonials, awards, and other recognition.

Learning and teaching should not stand
on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by;
instead, they should embark together
on a journey down the water.
Through an active, reciprocal exchange,
teaching can strengthen learning how to learn.
