About the Museum

The Hefner Zoology Museum has been a mainstay of Miami University for over 50 years. Building upon this strong tradition, today's museum strives to achieve its mission by being a resource for diverse audiences.

Mission
The Robert A. Hefner Zoology Museum seeks to increase visitors' knowledge of animal natural history; in particular, it emphasizes the animals of Southwest Ohio.

Through its exhibits and collections, the Hefner Zoology Museum helps visitors to understand and appreciate the importance of animal biodiversity, conservation, and ecology. Further, museum programs emphasize environmental education.

Audiences
The Hefner Zoology Museum's primary audiences are Miami University students, faculty and staff; K-12 students, teachers and parents; and the general public.

The museum also provides materials for and participates in pertinent extramural research and educational projects conducted by non-Miami scholars.
